Skamasutra was a six-piece Ska band based out of Exeter, New Hampshire. For over four years Skamasutra gave the Northeast nothing but the best the Ska genre has to offer. Performing for audiences from Maine to Connecticut Skamasutra has spread its unique blend of Ska, Rock, and Jazz like dandelion seeds in the wind. Appealing to audiences as diverse as their influences Skamasutra has had the honor and privilege of sharing the stage with: Go Jimmy Go, Gym Class Heroes, The Pietasters, The Planet Smashers, The Slackers, Streetlight Manifesto, The Toasters, Voodoo Glow Skulls, and Westbound Train.
After five and a half years of entertaining the Northeast Skamasutra has decided to call it quits. Everyone was involved in making this decision and the vote was unanimous. There were many factors that were weighed to come to this conclusion. James has moved back to New York for personal reasons and isn't expecting to return to New Hampshire. That left Skamasutra without a guitarist and bassist and no one to train prospective members. Also Nick has decided to move to New York in June. This will leave Skamasutra without lead vocals and one-third of the permanent horn section. These line-up conflicts would make it impossible for Skamasutra to play at any of our upcoming performances and will make it reasonably unfeasible for Skamasutra to continue at a later time. With that reasoning in mind it was unanimously decided to end Skamasutra. However, all members will be pursuing other musical endeavors.
Nick and James have started a dance-influenced folk group called Fighting Windmills - ex Calliope. Also Steve, Sam, and Tristan have started a new project called Fletcher Munson with Andy Buslovich and Justin Brown. F.M. just finished recording a three song demo that should be available within the next couple weeks. Also Greg and Brent's new project Comma has just released a four song demo that sounds amazing. Be sure to grab a copy at one of their shows!
Skamasutra would like to thank everyone who contributed to our success. All the families, friends, former members, fans, venues and bands that made our music possible and got it out there. We've had a lot of great times and will carry those memories with us always - wherever our personal lives may take us.
